As a recently-elected representative out of Local 250A, Labatt Brewery, in Edmonton, I want to share my support for Lana Payne as national president, and for the team of outstanding union activists she has assembled to run as part of the Forward Together team.

Statement from Lana Payne

I believe in a union we can all be proud of - a union for everyone, with everyone. I stand by the actions I took to initiate an internal investigation. I support the decisions of the elected National Executive Board. I am fully aware of the hill we must climb to rebuild trust and solidarity.

Reclaiming and Fulfilling the Unifor Dream

Lana Payne and the Forward Together team clearly offer the best chance for us to collectively reclaim and fulfil the dream that led us to form this great union.

Key Veterans of New Union Project leaders support Lana Payne

Four of they key architects of the process that created Unifor have written an open letter to Unifor members ahead of the Constitutional Convention. Peter Kennedy and Gaétan Ménard were the Secretary-Treasurers of the CAW and CEP, respectively, and co-chairs of the Proposal Committee that oversaw the New Union Project, culminating in the formation of Unifor. Fred Wilson and Jim Stanford were key staff from the two unions who helped facilitate the process to create Unifor.

In the wake of a scandal that challenges Unifor’s identity and threatens our reputation, I believe that a commitment to transparency, integrity, and ethical conduct must be our top priority if we are to repair our union and rebuild trust with our members and with the public.

Forward, Together for Migrant Workers

During the summer season, fields and farms hire migrant workers coming from different countries for seasonal work. While the government regulates some of the conditions migrant workers face, there remain gaps that expose migrant workers to challenging, unsafe, and sometimes deadly working conditions.

My local agreed to give $1,000 to Lana’s campaign. I challenge all other locals who support Lana to do the same. To be able to contribute to a team that has clear financial guidelines reassures me when it comes to the future of our Union.
