Key Veterans of New Union Project leaders support Lana Payne
By Lana Payne Campaign
Today, four of the key architects of the process that created Unifor have written an open letter to Unifor members ahead of the Constitutional Convention. Peter Kennedy and Gaétan Ménard were the Secretary-Treasurers of the CAW and CEP, respectively, and co-chairs of the ‘Proposal Committee’ that oversaw the New Union Project, culminating in the formation of Unifor. Fred Wilson and Jim Stanford were key staff from the two unions who helped facilitate the process to create Unifor. The four have issued a joint letter supporting Lana Payne and the Forward Together team as the best-suited candidates to lead the union’s recovery from recent wrong-doing, and continue pursuing the vision outlined when Unifor was formed in 2013.
In “Reclaiming and Fulfilling the Unifor Dream”, the authors state that “we are unanimous that the work of resolving the current crisis, learning from it, and strengthening our structures and practices will be best led by Sister Lana Payne and her Forward Together team.”
The four outline their reasoning in an open letter available here to all Unifor members. Any Unifor members who would like to comment on or endorse this open letter are invited to write to [email protected].
